Keyword tool
Start from one phrase. Get the searches around it with monthly volume, cost per click and a year of trend.
How to use it
- Type the broad topic you want pins to rank for, in the words a person would use: “fall porch decor”, not “autumn exterior styling”.
- Read the three lists. Related searches are the phrases Google groups with yours. People also search for shows what the same searcher looks for next. Pinterest-style phrases are your keyword with the modifiers Pinterest users type.
- Pick one phrase per pin: a specific one with real volume and a trend that is flat or rising. Put it in the title and the first sentence of the description, then run the draft through Pin Doctor.
- Export the list to CSV when you are planning a month of pins or a new board.
Reading the numbers
- Searches a month is Google's average for the last year in the country you chose. Under 10 is shown as <10, not zero; small phrases still get pinned and found.
- CPC is what advertisers pay per click on Google for that phrase. High CPC means buyers, which matters if your pins sell something.
- Competition is Google's advertiser competition from 0 to 1. It is not Pinterest difficulty. On Pinterest, a good fresh pin can rank for most phrases within weeks.
Why Google numbers for Pinterest
Pinterest shows relative interest in its Trends tool and audience-size buckets in its ads tool, but never counts. Google volume is public, precise and moves with the same seasons, so it is the best way to compare two phrases and to spot the long-tail ones worth a pin. The search volume guide explains the sources in detail, and the keywords guide shows how to turn a list like this into pins.
Ready-made lists by niche
If you would rather start from a list, the keyword lists by niche cover twenty niches with up to 120 phrases each, rebuilt monthly from the same data.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this Pinterest search volume?
- No. Pinterest does not publish search counts, and no tool can show a true Pinterest volume. The numbers here are Google monthly searches from Keywords Everywhere, the closest public measure of how many people want a topic. A phrase people search on Google is almost always searched on Pinterest too, in the same relative order.
- What are Pinterest-style phrases?
- Your keyword combined with the words people add on Pinterest: ideas, aesthetic, DIY, for beginners, on a budget, easy, cute and so on. The tool measures demand for each combination and keeps the ones with real searches, which tells you which angle to build pins around.
- How should I use the trend?
- The twelve bars are the last twelve months, oldest on the left. A phrase that peaks in October is a fall topic: pin it from August. A flat line is evergreen. Pinterest Trends shows the same shape for Pinterest itself, so use the two together when timing matters.
- Will it get Pinterest's own data?
- Yes, as version two. Once BoardBooster's Pinterest API access is approved, each keyword will also show Pinterest's audience-size bucket from the Ads API for 18 regions, next to the Google number.
- Are there limits?
- Twenty searches an hour and a hundred a day per person, which is plenty for research. Results are cached, so repeating a search is instant.
