Tagged topics finder
Paste your pin title and description. We match it against Pinterest's own list of topics and suggest up to 10 to tag.
How tagged topics work
Pinterest organizes everything people save into a tree of interests, from broad roots like Food and Drinks down to specific leaves like Vegan Soup. When you tag a pin with topics from that tree, you are telling Pinterest exactly which branches it belongs on. That feeds the home feed and the “more like this” recommendations, where most Pinterest traffic comes from.
- Be specific first. “Vegan Soup” beats “Food and Drinks”. Add one broad parent if there is room.
- Match the pin, not the account. Tag what this pin shows, even if your account covers more.
- Keywords still come first. Topics add to a good title and description; they do not replace them.
- Tags are private. Followers never see them, so there is no reason to stuff or style them.
Frequently asked questions
- What are tagged topics on Pinterest?
- When you create a pin, the pin builder has a field called 'Tag related topics' where you can add up to 10 topics from Pinterest's interest list. They tell Pinterest what the pin is about so it can show it to people browsing those interests. Only you see the tags.
- Did tagged topics replace hashtags?
- In practice, yes. Pinterest stopped treating hashtags as a discovery feature years ago, and the pin builder now offers topic tags instead. Keywords in your title and description still matter most; topics are a second, cleaner signal.
- Where does the topic list come from?
- From the interest list Pinterest publishes for its advertising API: 3,404 topics in 24 categories, such as Animals, Architecture, Art, Beauty, Children's Fashion. It is the same taxonomy Pinterest uses to describe what people are interested in.
- Why can't I find a topic the tool suggested?
- Pinterest's list changes, and the pin builder's dropdown only shows topics as you type. Try the first word or two of the topic, or pick a close parent from the 'other matches' list.
- How many topics should I tag?
- As many as truly fit, up to 10. Tagging unrelated topics does not help and can put your pin in front of the wrong people. Three to seven specific topics is typical.
