How to pick a board name that gets found
Pinterest is a search engine first. When someone searches for “small apartment decor”, Pinterest looks at pin titles, descriptions and the names of the boards they are saved to. A board named for the exact phrase people type is a quiet, permanent ranking signal for every pin on it.
- Lead with the keyword. “Vegan Dinner Recipes”, not “Recipes I Love”.
- One topic per board. Split “Home” into “Living Room Ideas”, “Small Bathroom Ideas” and so on. Each board can then rank for its own phrase.
- Stay under 50 characters. That is the hard limit, and shorter names read better on mobile.
- Skip hashtags, emoji and the word Pinterest. They add nothing to search and look dated.
- Write a board description too. Two or three sentences with related phrases give Pinterest even more to work with.

Frequently asked questions
- How long can a Pinterest board name be?
- 50 characters. Anything longer is cut off. The generator never suggests names over the limit and shows the count next to each one.
- Do board names affect Pinterest search?
- Yes. Pinterest reads the board name and board description to understand what the pins on it are about, and it uses that to decide which searches your pins show up for. A board called 'Vegan Dinner Recipes' tells Pinterest more than one called 'Yum'.
- Should I use cute or clever board names?
- Only if the keyword is still in the name. 'Cozy Vegan Dinners' works because it keeps 'vegan dinners'. 'Nom Nom Nights' does not, because nobody searches for it. The Aesthetic and Fun styles keep the keyword while adding personality.
- Can I rename an existing board?
- Yes, from the board's settings. Renaming does not delete pins or followers. Give Pinterest a few weeks to re-index the board under the new name.
- How many boards should I have?
- Enough to cover each distinct topic you pin about, usually 10 to 30 for a focused account. One tight topic per board beats a few catch-all boards.
- Where does the search number come from?
- Google monthly search volume for the United States, via Keywords Everywhere. It is a proxy: Pinterest does not publish exact search counts, but topics people search on Google are usually searched on Pinterest too.
