Data: Google search data for keywords containing "pinterest", United States, via Keywords Everywhere, October 2026.
The headline numbers
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Phrases collected | 1,398 |
| Phrases with measurable volume (10 or more searches a month) | 1,028 |
| Distinct searches after merging Google's variant groups | 739 |
| Monthly searches for the brand term "pinterest" alone | 13,600,000 |
| Monthly searches for everything else combined | 861,800 |
The brand term dwarfs the rest: for every search of a phrase about Pinterest, sixteen people simply type the word and go to the site. Everything below is about the 738 phrases that are not the bare brand.
What people want, by theme
| Theme | Distinct searches | Monthly searches | Share of non-brand volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| Download or save images and videos | 80 | 271,260 | 31% |
| Log in, the app and the account | 54 | 202,010 | 23% |
| How-to and basics | 88 | 176,090 | 20% |
| Ideas and inspiration (nails, tattoos, outfits, recipes) | 70 | 90,880 | 11% |
| Marketing, business and making money | 107 | 47,410 | 6% |
| Boards, pins and profile | 41 | 10,330 | 1% |
| Tools, templates and automation | 47 | 5,380 | 1% |
| Trends and statistics | 7 | 4,980 | 1% |
| Everything else (countries, news, misspellings) | 244 | 53,460 | 6% |
Three findings stand out.
Downloading is the biggest job to be done. Almost a third of non-brand volume is people trying to save a Pinterest image or video to their device: "pinterest download", "pinterest video downloader" and their variants are each searched 90,500 times a month. Pinterest's terms forbid the tools that serve this demand, which is why the results for those queries are dominated by sites that ignore the terms.
Marketing is small in volume but large in variety. The marketing theme has the most distinct phrases of any theme, 107, but only 6 percent of the volume. People who want to use Pinterest for business search many different specific things: affiliate marketing (18,100 a month, the largest single marketing phrase), how to make money on Pinterest (14,800), a business account (4,400), keywords (1,000), SEO (590). This is the long tail where a tool site earns its traffic phrase by phrase.
Tools are a niche within a niche. Searches that name a tool, template or font add up to about 5,400 a month, with "pinterest fonts", "pinterest widget" and "pinterest extensions" at 1,000 each and "pinterest keyword tool" at 140. Anyone building free Pinterest tools should expect to be found through the how-to and marketing phrases rather than through tool names.
The long tail
| Slice | Distinct searches | Share of searches | Share of volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| Question phrases (how, what, why, can, does) | 140 | 19% | 5% |
| Phrases of four words or more | 261 | 35% | 7% |
| Phrases under 100 searches a month | 525 | 71% | small |
Seven in ten distinct searches about Pinterest get fewer than 100 searches a month. That is the shape of a healthy content market: a few head terms that platforms and big publishers own, and hundreds of specific questions that a focused page can answer. "How to make a Pinterest board private", "how to delete messages on Pinterest" and "what is a Pinterest board" are each searched between 590 and 1,000 times a month and have no obvious owner.
What advertisers pay for
Cost per click is a proxy for commercial value. The median phrase about Pinterest has no advertisers at all. The ones that do are the business phrases:
| Phrase | Monthly searches | Cost per click |
|---|---|---|
| pinterest ad specs | 320 | $4.79 |
| pinterest for brands | 140 | $4.35 |
| pinterest ads | 5,400 | $3.47 |
| pinterest analytics | 1,900 | $3.33 |
| pinterest tool | 170 | $3.24 |
| pinterest marketing services | 390 | $3.20 |
| pinterest board | 5,400 | $3.09 |
| pinterest profile | 1,600 | $2.88 |
| pinterest keyword tool | 140 | $2.64 |
| pinterest seo tool | 480 | $2.26 |
Advertisers value the person setting up ads, reading analytics or looking for a keyword tool at two to five dollars a click, and the person looking for a downloader at a few cents. The volume and the value sit at opposite ends of the list.
What this means for creators
- If you write about Pinterest, the how-to questions are the open ground: specific, steady and mostly unanswered by Pinterest's own help pages in the way people phrase them.
- "Pinterest affiliate marketing" is the single biggest commercial phrase, and it is bigger than "pinterest seo" and "pinterest marketing" put together. Our affiliate guides exist because of this number.
- Nobody searches for Pinterest tools by name. They search for the problem. Name your pages after the problem.
Method and limits
Seeds: pinterest, pinterest tool, how to use pinterest, pinterest marketing, pinterest seo, pinterest ideas, pinterest for business, pinterest keywords, pinterest pins, pinterest boards, pinterest downloader, pinterest analytics, pinterest ads, pinterest affiliate marketing, pinterest trends, pinterest templates, pinterest fonts, pinterest aesthetic, pinterest profile, pinterest group boards. For each seed we took up to 80 related keywords and 40 people-also-search-for keywords from Keywords Everywhere, kept the ones containing "pinterest", and fetched volume, cost per click and trend for all of them. Themes were assigned by keyword matching on the phrase and checked by hand; a phrase that fits two themes was counted in the first that matched, in the order listed. The sample depends on the seeds, so themes far from them (for example, recipes that happen to mention Pinterest) are under-represented. Volumes are Google Keyword Planner averages, which round to buckets and merge close variants.

Frequently asked questions
- Where does the data come from?
- Keywords Everywhere's related-keyword and people-also-search-for endpoints, seeded with 20 broad phrases such as pinterest, pinterest marketing and pinterest downloader, then monthly search volume and cost per click for every phrase from Google Keyword Planner data, United States, pulled on October 22, 2026.
- Why are duplicates merged?
- Google reports the same volume for close variants (pinterest login, pinterest log in). We merged phrases with identical volume, cost per click and twelve-month trend into one entry, which turned 1,028 phrases with measurable volume into 739 distinct searches.
- Is this Pinterest's own search data?
- No. It is what people type into Google about Pinterest. Searches inside Pinterest are a different and much larger stream that Pinterest does not publish.
- Can I get the full list?
- The themed tables in this study are the summary. The keyword tool returns the same data for any seed phrase, with CSV export, if you want to explore a corner of it.
