Pinterest rich pins validator

Check any page for the article, product and recipe tags Pinterest needs, with a fix for each missing one.

Check a page for rich pins

Paste the address your pin links to. We read the page the way Pinterest does and show what is missing.

The tags Pinterest reads

Every rich pin type starts with the basic Open Graph set. Then each type adds a few of its own.

  • All pages: og:title, og:description, og:image (an absolute https URL, ideally 2:3 and at least 600 pixels wide), plus og:url and og:site_name.
  • Articles: og:type set to article, and ideally article:author and article:published_time, or Article JSON-LD with author and datePublished.
  • Products: product:price:amount and product:price:currency, or a schema.org Product with an Offer, plus og:availability for stock status.
  • Recipes: schema.org Recipe JSON-LD with name, image, recipeIngredient, recipeInstructions, and ideally totalTime and recipeYield.

How to add missing tags

  • WordPress: Yoast SEO or Rank Math add the Open Graph set and article tags. Recipe plugins such as WP Recipe Maker add Recipe JSON-LD.
  • Shopify: most themes output product price tags. If price is missing, check the theme's social sharing settings or add the meta tags to theme.liquid.
  • Squarespace, Wix, Webflow: set the social sharing image and description per page; article type is added automatically on blog posts.
  • Custom sites: add the meta tags inside the head element of the page template, then run this check again.

Frequently asked questions

What are rich pins?
Pins that pull extra information from the linked page: the title and author for articles, price and stock for products, ingredients and cook time for recipes. The data comes from Open Graph meta tags and schema.org markup on your page, so it stays in sync when you update the page.
Do I still need to apply for rich pins?
No. Pinterest retired the manual validator and application in 2023. Add the tags, and Pinterest picks them up when the page is next saved or re-crawled, usually within a day or two.
My page passes but pins still look plain. Why?
Existing pins update when Pinterest re-crawls the page, which can take a while. Save a fresh pin of the page to trigger it. Also check that the page is not blocked by robots.txt or a login wall.
Does this work for Shopify, WordPress and Squarespace?
Yes. Most themes add og:title, og:description and og:image already. Products on Shopify get price tags from the theme; WordPress sites usually need an SEO plugin such as Yoast or Rank Math for article tags and a recipe plugin for Recipe JSON-LD.
Do you store the pages I check?
No. We fetch the page once, read the tags, show you the result and discard it. We keep only a count of checks per address for rate limiting.
