Benchmarks are rough. Rates vary a lot by niche and by how old the pin is.
How Pinterest counts the numbers
- Impressions are the number of times a pin was shown on screen: in the home feed, in search, on a board or as a related pin. One person scrolling past twice counts twice.
- Saves are how many times someone added the pin to one of their boards. Saves are the strongest signal that a pin will keep spreading.
- Pin clicks (formerly closeups) are taps to open the pin and see it large.
- Outbound clicks are clicks on the link to your website. This is the number that turns into traffic and sales.
Engagement rate puts saves, pin clicks and outbound clicks together against impressions, so it tells you how often someone who saw the pin did anything with it.
Where to find them in Pinterest Analytics
On desktop, open Analytics then Overview for account-wide totals, and pick a date range at the top. For a single pin, open the pin from your profile and click See more stats. The same four numbers appear in both places. On the app, go to your profile, tap the chart icon, then a pin.
What a good rate looks like
Treat benchmarks as rough. A pin that has been live for a year and still gets impressions from search will usually show a lower rate than a pin published this week, simply because the audience is colder. Compare pins of a similar age, and watch outbound clicks separately: a pin with a high save rate and no clicks is pretty, not profitable.
Frequently asked questions
- How is Pinterest engagement rate calculated?
- Add up saves, outbound clicks and pin clicks, divide by impressions, and multiply by 100. Pinterest Analytics shows a similar number as 'engagement rate' on the Overview page; this calculator lets you work it out for a single pin or any time range.
- What is a good engagement rate on Pinterest?
- Roughly 1% to 3% is typical across accounts. Under 1% suggests the pin's image or title is not stopping people; over 3% is strong. Food, home and craft niches tend to run higher than business topics, and fresh pins usually beat old ones.
- Where do I find impressions, saves and clicks?
- Open Pinterest Analytics, choose Overview for the whole account or click a pin and open its stats for one pin. Set the date range, then read Impressions, Saves, Outbound clicks and Pin clicks.
- What is a good CPM on Pinterest ads?
- Most advertisers see CPMs somewhere between $2 and $5, with CPCs from a few cents to around a dollar depending on niche and targeting. Use the Ad cost calculator with your own campaign numbers rather than relying on averages.
- How much should I charge for a sponsored pin?
- There is no fixed rate. The What to charge calculator gives a starting range from your engaged audience and engagement rate, and shows the formula. Adjust for how long the pin stays up, whether you include a blog post, and usage rights.
